Engaging practitioners and firms, the PICPA gathered real-world insights into the challenges and opportunities facing auditors today. Those conversations informed a comprehensive response to the PCAOB focused on strengthening audit quality while supporting innovation, scalability, and a sustainable profession. ![3 team members of not-for-profit planning out funding](https://blog.picpa.org/hs-fs/hubfs/3%20team%20members%20of%20not-for-profit%20planning%20out%20funding.jpg?width=570&height=261&name=3%20team%20members%20of%20not-for-profit%20planning%20out%20funding.jpg) Here are some of the key themes in PICPA’s response: - Encouraging the responsible use of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced data analytics, in the audit process. - Calling on the PCAOB to develop a unified, forward-looking technology strategy to help regulators and firms adapt to innovations in auditing. - Supporting practical, scalable standards that recognize the realities facing small and midsize firms. - Advocating for a more transparent, consistent, and balanced approach to inspections and enforcement. - Calling for modernized standards and a forward-looking regulatory framework that keeps pace with evolving audit practices. The PICPA also emphasized the importance of aligning regulation with investor protection, while also avoiding unnecessary burdens that could limit competition and participation in the public company audit market.
